Westway Staff

Our team is always happy to be your first friendly hello when you pop in, and we’re here to help with any questions you might have.

Mary Marden, Centre Manager

I grew up in South London before moving to Caterham in 1995, where I have lived with my two children for over 29 years. Both of my children grew up here and attended local schools, and Caterham has truly become home for our family.

For 27 years I ran a nursery, which gave me the privilege of supporting local families and young children through their early years. In 2020, I joined The Westway as a volunteer before moving into the Outreach team, where I worked for two years. In 2023, I was delighted to be given the opportunity to take on the role of Centre Manager.

I really enjoy the variety this role brings—no two days are ever the same—and it’s rewarding to see more and more activities, services, and opportunities being offered at The Westway, as well as our membership continuing to grow.

Darren Fernee , Assistant Manager

I grew up in West Wickham and haven’t moved far since! I live with my family, including two teenagers!

My career spans over 30 years in advertising and marketing, from design to operations, finally overseeing 21 countries in Europe for a large food company ensuring smooth running. I’m now delighted to be working for the Westway centre as Assistant Manager, supporting day-to day-running, facilities and offering a warm welcome to anyone that ventures through our doors. I enjoy art, cycling, outdoor activities and DIY challenges!

The Westway Centre is a delightful place, which offers a range of interactive services to anyone in the community. I’m honoured to work here and look forward to meeting you all.

Claire Wilson, Volunteer Coordinator

I grew up in Croydon and moved to Caterham in 2002 to start a family. I have been involved in Girlguiding for over 25 years, including 20 years in Caterham.

I joined the Westway as a volunteer and supported the centre during its time as a COVID vaccination clinic. Since then, I have continued to help by running classes and activities, including cooking and flower arranging.

This role is an exciting new opportunity to celebrate and support our current volunteers and the valuable contribution they make to the centre, while also encouraging new volunteers to get involved.

Angela Edwards, Administrator

I have lived in the local area all my life and share my home with my husband and our two grown-up sons. My journey with Westway began in 2022, when I volunteered in a variety of roles, including office support. I was immediately drawn to the welcoming atmosphere and strong sense of community.

In 2023, I was delighted to join the team in a part-time role. I am now responsible for invoicing, banking, membership management, Meals on Wheels, and a wide range of administrative tasks that help support the smooth running of Westway’s services.

Mittal Patel, Administrator

I have lived in the area for over 10 years with my two children and first became involved with the centre as a volunteer. Over time, my role has grown, and I am now responsible for managing the website and social media, as well as more recently coordinating the programme of events. I enjoy using my skills to help promote the centre and support the wide range of activities it offers to the community.
